How To Pick A Boxing Gym In Birmingham

When picking a boxing gym in Birmingham, there are several factors you should consider. Below are our top tips.

Types Of Boxing Gyms In Birmingham

There are a number of different types of boxing gyms in Birmingham. Each type of gym caters to a different type of boxer.

Types of boxing gyms in Birmingham include:

  • Amateur boxing gyms – These gyms are associated with the ABA. If your goal is to compete in the Olympics then you should join an amateur boxing gym.
  • Professional boxing gym – Professional boxing gyms cater to boxers who are looking to fight professionally.
  • White-Collar boxing gyms – White-collar boxing was originally formed for white-collar professionals to train and fight in special boxing events. These days, the white-collar circuit is very competitive and features some extremely skilled boxers.
  • Fitness gyms – Commercial fitness gyms often offer recreational boxing classes.
  • MMA boxing classes – These gyms offer boxing as part of their MMA training schedule. If you’re interested in training MMA in Birmingham, check out our guide.

The type of gym that you choose should reflect your boxing goals.

Boxing Experience

When choosing a boxing gym in Birmingham, you should join a gym that suits your experience level.

For example, if you are an experienced boxer, it makes sense for you to join a gym that has a lot of competitive sparring partners.

On the other hand, recreational boxers looking to get fit would benefit from joining a white-collar or fitness boxing gym.

Location

When choosing a boxing gym in Birmingham, you should consider the location of the gym.

Factors to consider:

  • How long it takes to get to the gym?
  • The cost it takes to get to training
  • Is the gym located in the city centre?
  • What is the traffic like at rush hour?
  • How far is it away from your home?

There’s nothing worse than sitting in an hour of traffic after work to get to the boxing gym. For your training to be consistent, you should choose a gym that is located within a commutable distance from your home.
